MCTec is a world leader in coating technology for medical applications. Headquartered in Venlo, the Netherlands, the company was formed in 1999 and is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Merit Medical, a leading manufacturer of medical devices used in diagnostic and interventional cardiology and radiology procedures.

MCTec pioneered and perfected its spool-to-spool coating technology for wire and tubing, mastering reliable and cost-efficient coating processes for the medical device industry, which opens up the design freedom for challenging medical devices. Furthermore, MCTec ensures the highest level of performance and quality for its coating-based products.

What's special about MCTec's coated hypotube shafts is its extremely uniform covering of PTFE (LubriSkin™ or DuraSkin™) or SlipSkin™ hydrophilic coating. The thin yet effective coating layer allows maximum design freedom for the tubing, especially when the resultant inside and outside diameter is critical.

With its in-house knowledge and capabilities, MCTec can provide hypotube shafts that are well-balanced with respect to stiffness, kink resistance and flexibility. The hypotube shafts are available in a variety of colours, and can be supplied in defined lengths, with shaft markers and distal shape finishing (stylet, skive, spiral cut or other designs) according to your requirements.

MCTec's extremely uniform PTFE ShieldSkin™ coated wire or tube-based needle components are unique. The relatively thin yet effective coating layer allows maximum design freedom for the tubing inside diameter for optimal flow rates, maintaining a small outer diameter for less painful insertion and optimal atraumatic performance.

The ShieldSkin coated tubing offers electrical insulation for low voltage applications such as neuro-stimulation needles. With its in-house knowledge and capabilities, MCTec can provide needles that are well-balanced with respect to stiffness and kink resistance for optimal atraumatic performance. The needles are available in a variety of colours, and can be supplied in defined lengths, with markers and distal shape finishing such as angle cut, spiral cut, surface roughening, etc. according to your requirements.

The MCTec proprietary spool-to-spool coating process results in smooth, uniform coated guide wire components, such as coiling wire and core wire. The coated wire, available in round or flat stainless steel, can be coated either with PTFE (LubriSkin) or hydrophilic (SlipSkin) coating. What is unique about this process is that the wire is coated prior to the coiling step, which ensures a consistently coated diameter with tight tolerances.

The resulting pre-coated guide wire has a consistent coating, unlike conventional spray-coated guide wires that often encounter cracking of the coating. Coated core wire can be supplied dead-straight in combination with a thin yet effective LubriSkin or DuraSkin coating resulting in one-to-one torque. Coated coiling wire is available in round or flat stainless steel and can be coated either with PTFE (LubriSkin) or a hydrophilic (SlipSkin) coating. The coated wire is available in a variety of materials, various colour options and different diameters, and can be supplied spooled, cut to length or coiled.

The MCTec proprietary spool-to-spool coating process provides extremely uniform coatings for processing aids as used for medical device manufacturing. The PTFE (LubriSkin or DuraSkin) coated stylets and mandrels have a uniform diameter and tight tolerances, allowing more design freedom for catheter tube IDs and improved release properties.

MCTec's cost-effective PTFE LubriSkin and DuraSkin coating is available on wire in a variety of materials and in different diameters and lengths. The unique coating process also allows MCTec to apply its PTFE coatings onto nitinol without compromising its elastic properties. Many other applications are possible with the coated wire and mandrels, which are available in a variety of colours, either straightened on spool, or dead-straight and cut to length.

MCTec is able to produce coated products to your specific demands as long as it fits within our capabilities. Feel free to contact us to discuss your specific product developments.

MCTec: New Hydrophilic Coated Polymer Tubing

MCTec is pleased to announce that it now offers continuously coated polymer tubing in a variety of materials and in diameters ranging from CH 8 to CH 18 cut to your specific length. The hydrophilic-coated tubing is typically used for nelaton catheters (urethral drainage catheters), but can also b
